1/2/2021Nope, the entire state is hot and humid in the summer. The mountains are a good two hours away from Chapel Hill, and the altitude just gets you a shorter season.

Great college town, but not cheap -
1/2/2021Between my wife and I, we've lived in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, and Chapel Hill, and it's Chapel Hill we prefer. Franklin Street is always lively with an eclectic mix of shops, cafes, and restaurants, and UNC brings arts, sports, and top-tier healthcare. For anything else you might need, the other triangle cities are within easy driving distance. It is an expensive town though, with high housing costs and property taxes. The local economy also revolves around UNC, but there are many commuters into RTP.

1/2/2021Both UNC-CH and UVA are in the top five for US public universities, and quite difficult to get into particularly coming from out of state. Your reasons for preferring some and dismissing others are rife with baseless claims and irrelevant hearsay. For your son's sake, I hope he was able to decide on his own based on the merits and standing of their academic programs.
