Wonderful Place To Raise Your Children And Create -
12/21/2008I moved from Va Beach Va to Cape Cod over 20 years ago and I am very happy here. The weather is not too hot in the Summer usually not more than 85 degrees. I live near Sandy Neck Beach which allows you to go off road and enjoy the beach with bonfires and camping. West Barnstable is a lovely area. You drive only 15 minutes and you are in Hyannis where the Kennedys live and most of your shopping can be done. The public schools are fabulous here and the teachers really care, it shows in my daughters' grades and attitude towards school. The traffic on the Cape used to be bad but they have changed Route 132 to a 6 lane highway now, origionally it was a two lane road that got backed up. No more long waits. The Cape Cod Mall owned by Simon properties is in Hyannis, they have a huge movie theatre there. There are many pubs around Hyannis that have live music and the people are friendly. Crime in West Barnstable is like a 1 out of 10. Usually when you hear of anything, it is a domestic issue. You will find that there is not alot of Neon signs around, the town makes sure that businesses stay in their guidelines. If you are planning on remodeling your house in certain areas on the Cape you may haveto get persmission. They have this law incase someone wants to paint their house pink with purple stripes and bring the value of other homes down. Most people in West Barnstable take pride in their homes and keep their lawns and houses up quite nicely. The water quality in W. Barn is really good, esp if you have well water. There is a natural spring in Sandwich the next town over that everyone taps into. The air is crisp and fresh, nothing beats the morning hours here. There are leash laws so you won't see dogs wandering around. Overall I would highly suggest living here, especially when compared to the bigger cities that crime is ramphant in this hard economy we are all facing. Good Luck in your search
