There are no green hills in the summer? Are you SERIOUS??? I've lived here for 24 years and one of my favorite things about San Ramon (other than the low property and violent crime rates) is seeing the beautiful, green foothills as you drive around the city. And, yep, it's the summer right now. Not sure who wouldn't enjoy sunshine for 7-8 months a year and since it's relatively dry heat, even 100F days are tolerable. Yes, the housing is expensive, but, people know that coming in. The city population has more than tripled since I moved here, with good reason - it's a beautiful, safe, low crime community with great schools.

Well, congrats, Mike - your post has got to be the most racist post I've ever seen on
Sperling. So, what you're saying here is that all the loitering here from black people only. And by saying when Lancaster was 80+% white in the 1980's, that automatically made it a "tranquil city". You finish by implying that only black people receive Section 8, which we all know is a lie. So, if a fairy god mother waved her wand and all the black people disappeared, all the crime and Section 8 housing would suddenly vanish with it, because we all know non-blacks NEVER commit crimes. Right. You keep living in that racist fog you're obviously living in.

Wow, Erika, you sound pretty judgemental! All I can say is if you wanted to live in a community where there are only "well off families and not one dumpy house", maybe you should have researched before you signed on the dotted line. But, just so you know, some of us like those mixed bags of nuts. It's called diversity.

Your stereotyping of liberals is rather ignorant, glen. Since when do liberals create a bad economy?

My family and I currently live in California and are considering a move to Texas for economic reasons. It's the last two sentences of this post that bothers me, and I have seen this same mentality from people in Texas many times. I find your assumption that new residents would automatically bringing you our problems insulting. And, what exactly is "your way"?

The belief that someone who is not a native of a certain area is not welcome there makes no sense at all to me. There are cities and towns all over the US that have wonderful qualities. There are also PEOPLE in cities and towns all over the US who have wonderful qualities.

With a welcome like yours, John, don't worry; of you are an example of the mentality of people living in Kingwood, my family and I will have no problem staying away.

Your reply to the person who, in your view, had nothing good to say about Santa Fe, was pretty harsh. Rather than put all the blame on the other person, perhaps you need to ask yourself why you're so defensive simply because some else's viewpoint doesn't align with your own.

Housing IS expensive in San Ramon, but, that's true for most areas in California. I've lived in San Ramon for 20 years and can honestly say it's the best city I've ever lived in. The people are friendly and polite. The crime rate is very, very low, particularly violent crime. San Ramon also has great schools and great weather.

Because so many people over the years have also discovered how wonderful San Ramon is, traffic over the years has become more and more of a problem during the morning and afternoon commute times. I've never heard of a problem as a result of the location of the federal jail in the Tri-Valley area. Even though my family and I will be relocating out of state in the future because of the high cost of living, I wouldn't even consider it if I had the financial means to stay in San Ramon. It's a wonderful community and I've loved every moment here!

If they were giving out awards for stereotyping racist, you would be a hands down winner. Thanks so much for letting us all know that you have a degree, but, you're what my mother used to call an educated fool. I have news for you - the "Mexicans" aren't the ones doing the polluting - your RACISM is.

I am so tired of condescending comments about California!! If your crappy attitude is an example of the typical Las Cruces resident, I don't want to live anywhere NEAR Las Cruces!!

Housing prices through the roof!
- 8/28/2006
I've lived in California all my life, but the high housing prices have finally made myself and my family seriously consider relocating out of state. A million dollars in California doesn't buy much - certainly nothing near what it used to.

Crowded - skyhigh housing costs - but I love Calif
- 6/3/2006
I was born and raised in the Bay Area. There's just something special about California. Even with all of the negatives - housing costs through the roof - cities are crowded, crowded, crowded - I still love living in California.
