Hidden gem of a city despite “high crime rates” - 4/27/2022
We actually do love Beloit. We moved here 4 years ago after living in Mequon and before that Shorewood and Ripon (safe areas with great schools). We have a teen and 2 young children and there are SO many family activities in Beloit and surrounding areas. We have a new movie theater, the abc supply stadium is beautiful and our kids love attending snappers games and going to ice arena. The baseball fields are pristine and our ymca is like no other. The trails and parks in the area are plentiful. There are diverse restaurants throughout the city and all though crime rates are considered high, they are isolated to certain areas of the city and amongst the same crowd. I have never felt unsafe here even when living near downtown and now in town of Beloit. My son loves turner school and I chose to homeschool youngest because living wages are so low here we can easily afford to do that! Can’t say that about many other cities. Best part is location, beloit is so well placed and relatively close to Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago. We frequent Rockford which has a lot of culture and so many great restaurants too. There aren’t a ton of shopping options within the city but that makes traffic almost non existent…and with so many options in a variety of nearby cities you can’t go wrong.
