Dallas, TX | 4 Review(s)

We took early retirement to endeavor to implement change in our nation's underperforming public schools by bringing awareness of "best practices" management.

When people find out about the amazing outcomes produced each year for over twenty years by the Hobart Shakespearens, which utilizes the classics to uplift fifth graders from homes having the very worst conditions into polite and enthusiastic scholars, who later gain entry into the nation's most competitive colleges, the question arises: "Why can't we do that at our school?"

If you are buying in Frisco, you might consider do - 7/4/2010
Different people want different things when they buy a home. Quality of life is largely determined by the quality of governance of a city or of a homeowners association.

If you are even considering buying within the Heritage Lakes development, might I suggest that you consider doing due diligence by inputting the search term
"heritage lakes hoa " into the Google News search block. I would suggest that you will have a wealth of published pieces which should give you enough insight as to the quality of the governance of the mandatory HOA which rules this development. ( I would suggest that I would use the term "serves" for the function performed by other HOAs that are well managed.

Caveat emptor is the watch word here.

We flatlanders love to visit wineries in Woodinvil - 7/4/2010
We live in Dallas, Texas, in the heart of the flatlands. On our frequent visits to the Puget Sound area, we always do the wine tastings at the Woodinville winery district and always, always make the high quality family owned Facelli Winery our first stop.

Our friends who have asked us the best places to see in the Puget Sound area have all told us that they love the warm reception that they receive from Sandy Facelli.

Let's keep this great family winery our own secret, as the last thing that we would want to happen would be for everyone to find out how great their wine is and then they would grow to be a monster like Ernest & Julio Gallo, and their monstrosity of an impersonal industrialized entity with everything becoming generic and quantity driven.

So shhhhhh, let's keep this quiet.

Oh, how we miss the 70s in Dallas - 7/4/2010
During the 70s, Dallas had former Texas Instruments CEO Erik Jonnsen as Mayor.
Jonnsen implemented "Best Practices, continuous improvement" management, just as he had at Texas Instruments, and as in place at every world class organization.

This has gone by the wayside and Dallas is now a classic case of "Management by
Crisis". Our quality of life amenities have had serial budget cuts for decades, especially in the critical function of the libraries.

Offsetting this is our marvelous collection of world-class museums in our downtown Arts District. Dallas and Fort Worth combined have one of the world's best collections of the very highest quality museums, and we treat all of the museums as our own, regardless of which city they happen to be in.

Lunch at the Modern in Fort Worth is unequalled. There is no better planned and organized event for children than the annual Mayfest gala put on by the
Junior League of Fort Worth on the first week in May of each year.

This is a four day event from Thursday to Sunday. Plan to be there when the gates open on Thursday or Friday with your children, as it is shoulder to shoulder on Saturday and Sunday. When our two kids were of the age to enjoy Mayfest, we took them out of their respective schools early every year
so we drive the fifty miles west, park, and catch the shuttle bus to the entry gate, which opens at 3pm. The kids loved every single minute of these Mayfest outings and looked forward to repeating them year after year.
We would love to see the Junior League expand this fabulous event to cover two full weekends plus the weekdays in between to reduce the crowding on the Saturday and Sunday now experienced.

If you have kids, do not let them miss this best kids event anywhere!!!!
