Midland, MI

Many Wonderful Attributes for a city of 40,000 - 7/31/2019
I grew up in Midland and lived there up until I went to college, and now I am back 30 years later.

While I agree that if you are looking for a very vibrant place with a lot of entertainment, this city is probably not for you.

There is a wonderful library, a Center for the Arts center that has some very talented residents performing (in fact, I could not believe some of them are not professionals). The library is one of the best I have used, and I have lived in many larger cities. There is also a very nice bridge area with a very large dog park and walking trails.

What I like best about Midland is that serious crime is pretty much non-existent. There are some thefts and other minor crimes, but serious crimes are pretty much non-existent.

The cost of living is definitely the single factor that is motivating me to stay in Midland. Although the majority of the housing stock is dated and many houses require updates, the housing prices are almost half of what I could afford to buy in Madison, WI and Plymouth, MI.

The schools are world class which is a huge draw for people with families.

The community is very very conservative and die hard Republicans, but to each their own.

For the right person it is a good place to live, but I agree that you definitely need to realize the tradeoffs you will be making when deciding where to live.
