Crime is a Problem in Knoxville, Apparently the Ci - 11/19/2010
Having been in law enforcement for many years here in Knoxville, I can tell you honestly, that the crime statistics are way above what is reported. The officers here, are directed to primarily direct their efforts to enforcement of traffic violations and DUIs.Enforcement of these issues make the city a good deal of money. There are quotas to be met, or should I say "goals", which is the new catch phrase of the day. As for crime, many things go unreported, or reported as a lesser offense. A Robbery, becomes just a Theft. Burglary is reported as a Tresspassing.Felony possession of narcotics, gets reported as a simple possession and so on. The reporting method makes it look like our crime rates are not that bad, when in fact this is turning into a dangerous little city. There are many neighborhoods that rarely if ever see a police officer, and property crimes are through the roof because of that fact. The judicial system is a defense attorneys dream come true. Crimes are routinly pled out to ridiculus levels of punishment. There was a murder committed here not too long ago, where the suspect received twelve years of probation rather than incarceration in prison where he belongs. So my advice would be if you kill someone here, don't speed on the interstate to get away, it's a sure fire way to get yourself a ticket... In closing let me just say, there are much nicer cities to move to, where there is more to do and see, and would be a lot safer for you and your family.
