5/23/2018I've lived around Youngstown my entire life. I grew up in Boardman and now live in Struthers. It's not the best place to find work, but if you're willing to work 2 part time jobs or get creative, its not hard to survive at all. Housing and groceries are cheap. Crime isn't as big of a factor as people or media portray. In my 42 years of life, I've never been robbed, mugged or witnessed a crime. Basically if you are aware of your surroundings and have common sense, you're good to go. I am also an alum of YSU and always felt safe on their campus as well, even at night. Overall, this area is a great place for families. Good schools, great parks, etc. Plus the weather isn't bad either. We don't have catastrophic weather like Florida or earthquakes like Cali.
