Norco, CA

Lost its charm
- 1/26/2007
Norco used to be a charming, quaint, little animal keeping community. Much of its appeal was being able to see horses in almost every backyard (and a lot of front yards too), its peace and quiet, its feed stores dotting 6th St., its antique (junk!!) stores, its western clothing and tack shops, its small cafes, grocery store and "saloon" with hitching posts or corrals in front of them, its friendly people who were truly concerned about their neighbors, and, the "old time feel" you got seeing the many horses and riders meandering up and down the miles and miles of dedicated horse trails on practically every street. There was a time when you could ride the split-rail fenced street trails, the hills and the river bottom in a safe, friendly, environment but, because of the over-building of houses in the hills and the VERY non-equine friendly people driving at speeds over double the posted 25 mph limit, it isn't safe to ride anywhere anymore. The charming "old Norco" lifestyle, in my opinion, died around 1999 when they took the first shovel-full of dirt out of Pedley field to start building the cookie cutter houses. Norco has rapidly become just another "used to be a great place to live".

Norco boasts that it is "Horsetown USA", at one time it was, but sadly, it's no longer true.

RIP Norco
