re: Update 6 Months Later - I'm Out

Denver needs to start listening to it's citizens who have lived here and supported it's growth for the past 20 or 30 years! This used to be an amazing place to live. What's happening here saddens me. All of what you described above is spot on. People in this city used to be kind, considerate, and friendly - especially on the roads. Pedestrians have the right of way in this state, the left lane is for passing, and merge lanes are for merging. Newcomers don't seem to get that. Apparently this huge influx of people are bringing their bad attitudes and bad habits (like littering) with them and it has ruined our once beautiful and clean city.

re: Sad to write this because I LOVED DENVER

I moved to Denver in 1985 for a job opportunity. I came when everyone was leaving. Rentals were beautiful, plentiful, upscale, and ridiculously affordable. So affordable, that my rent went down after I moved in and didn't change again for 6 years until 91 when I finally decided to buy, because that was affordable too. I was in the tech field and after buyouts resulting in layoffs in 2005 I left to start my own business & got divorced 5 yrs later. As a result I have lived in the same apartment for over 8 years now, b/c I basically cannot afford to move. And while my rent is reasonable compared to the new high rises they are slapping up, it has increased 30% in these 8 years, while quality of service and amenities dwindles, and traffic in my neighborhood has become unbearable. Apparently DTC was declared the new 'hip' place to live a couple years ago - probably because the 'hipsters' could no longer afford the rent downtown - or maybe they grew tired of stepping over homeless people. And this is just a fraction of what saddens me about this town. I too, used to LOVE Denver, and sang it's praises to everyone. I had traveled all over the country and the globe and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Now I can't imagine staying here - so I am on this page doing my research to find my new state in which to live. Someplace more affordable, less crowded, with friendlier people, no more snow, and a better quality of life. It was a good run, but it is very sad to see what has happened to this city and how miserable so many people are now. I can't bear it anymore.
