Sugar Land, TX

I can't say much bad about Sugar Land aside from the summer heat (which is everywhere in Texas, even the much-lauded Austin). It's very convenient to everything, and most of the public schools are great. Lots of master-planned communities, which are nice for families. This year, Fort Bend county was named as the "#1 place to get ahead" because of its job opportunities and growing population and income levels. Sugar Land is the largest city in Fort Bend. The unincorporated areas just outside of Sugar Land that have Richmond addresses are very nice as well.
As far as all of the conspiracy theory comments below on the city not reporting all of the crime or trying to hide it -- just NOT true. Sugar Land is MUCH safer than most of the rest of the Houston metro. Do you honestly think they could hide this from the FBI? If little ol' Sugar Land could hide it, then I guess the much more powerful NYC and Los Angeles could be doing it too. Heck, then Austin is probably doing it too, among other negatives they are keeping hidden to attract more transfers.

Caution: Austin is very overrated and overhyped by - 6/21/2010
I've lived in Austin, and the way many in the media and elsewhere describe Austin, they will have you believe it is somehow magically exempt from the intense Texas heat, sprawl, strip malls, and cookie-cutter subdivisions that people often complain of when referring to the other Texas cities. I don't know why this is, but please just be aware of the puff-piece articles and exaggerations. The media and the Austin-boosters love to put Austin on a pedestal (while at the same time trash-talking about the other major Texas cities), so just be aware and don't come with unrealistic expectations.
Many of you may move to Austin from cities they disliked in other states, and so will say good things about Austin because it's different from cities in other states. That's fine. But since you haven't lived in Houston or Dallas yet, just don't let yourself get brainwashed by the naysayers in Austin who say Austin is the only worthwhile place in Texas and the other cities are terrible in one way or another. That holier-than-thou attitude is just wrong, so don't fuel the fire.
