Born and raised in Western PA, I support the Black and Gold all the way, left here over 11 years ago been trying to get back for the last 4 years finally left my wife and went thru hell for that and finally got home with the clothes on my back.
Now I am trying to get back into school to get my Bachelors and get my life back basically so that is where I am at, and the only way I would leave Western PA again is if I am going to Germany to work and live for a few years or go to Berlin to get my MBA, other wise I'm here to stay.

Your in Reading and that is a different story than the rest of the State, I lived in Reading for a few years Go Royals & Reading Phils, when it comes to businesses coming in there it is the county that handles that, mostly the state stays out of it, Reading is bad to start a business there, but you go to Pittsburgh there are hundreds of start-ups there and a friendlier business climate for small business well considering some of the start-ups are coming from Carnegie-Mellon and you got the Best schools in the country there and some of the people who runs or owns businesses in Reading, they went to Pittsburgh to college because you got, so that should say something and another is too is that the state only gives money to areas that looks promising to invest basically all that money into an area, lets be real the actual city of Reading looks like a slum at different sections or a drug dealing center and Cherry street is really bad no one is ever down there past 5PM unless there is some show or hockey game going on then the police is in force for a couple blocks around the arena Penn Street could be a wonderful place to go at night if they can get rid of all the scum out of the area and all those beautiful old brownstones down there and the mills apartments can be a big attraction to young professionals but they rent and sell to lowlife scumbags and now you hear gunshots down there every night and it got worse every month I was in the area I lived in the area on Kutztown Rd north of 12 but that area was going to crap too, Berks need to stop worrying so much on getting developments built on the outskirts of town and start concentrating on getting rid of some of those projects and cleaning up the downtown area of Reading because it has such possibilities if they would get rid of those scumbags and try to attract young professionals out of Philly to move there and get it cleaned up.
If you want to get things done then talk to people and start something to get the city council to listen and show what a wonderful area Reading can be.

I got out of Schuylkill county as soon as I could the few decent people that was there was also planning to leave and the are Skooks for generations, it seems any of them that has any brains leaves as soon as they can, hell when I told them about Western PA they acted like I was making it up, but I told them for a vacation go over there for a week or at least a few days and you will see the difference, and for a few that has been there visiting family they thought where they were at was unique I told them that what you see along the road you traveled and where you were at is pretty much Western PA, but the one thing they couldn't believe is how friendly everyone was, they thought it was an act but I told them that is pretty much how we are, we say what is on our mine and what we say we mean it, and we are very open to an extent and non-racist there is a few morons but they are losers anyway, but we do mind as long as you are a hard worker and a decent person than you will feel welcomed, but never act high and mighty we will bring you down a notch or 2, it is a good place to learn to keep grounded.
I hate Schuylkill County, not much there and with the numbers they lost in population and some towns becoming abandoned I think in about 20 years they will phase out Schuylkill county and make it part of the surrounding counties heck Pottsville south used to be Berks Country so it does not have much time left, if you really want to leave Schuylkill County come to Western PA it is a better situation to make you happier it depends on what you do for a living depends how quick you can find a job.

the area is a wonderful mix of of small towns, country and farms and the Allegheny River if want to peace and quiet and raise a family this is the place to be if you are wanting to get rich than go somewhere else this is a quiet area with access to 2 very good colleges (Clarion & Slippery Rock University)and nationally known schools in Pittsburgh which is only about an hour 15 minutes away and this is the holy land of the Black and Gold and if you do not have a Terrible Towel there is something wrong with you plus most people who come here can not believe how beautiful it is and how friendly the people are, but we are not push overs, and we do what we feel like doing when we want to and never at the expense of another, we are a high majority white/Caucasian at over 98% and the other races is a mix of black and a couple Hispanics but we are not racist except a couple morons who are also losers, but mostly we all get along if an interracial couple moved in we do not really notice as long as you are willing to work and is honest you are good people in our books, we still have our problems but it is better than most places and I love it.
