Oklahoma City, OK

DON'T DO IT - 5/31/2014
The only pro I can think about OKC is that low cost of living.
We moved here from Chicago a year ago for a job and we are just waiting for an opportunity to get out of here.
People here are odd as ever. I use to think they were just un-friendly but I also realize they are incredibly dumb and act as if you’re odd for wanting to have an intellectual conversation or if you show any kind of energy in your conversation. Most people here are rude as hell and customer service in this town is shocking. No grocery stores, well Whole Foods and Sprouts but they are like novelty stores, not regular grocery stores??? July and August you will be inside, too hot to go out, and the winter is milder temperature wise than the upper Midwest but the wind is wicked and very cold. Trash is everywhere! People do not pick up trash here and the winds are always whipping the trash all over the city. THE UGLIEST CITY you will ever see is OKC. It is so ugly it’s depressing. The phony Christians will drive you nuts quickly. If you’re single, a black professional, non-Christian, or LGBT you will have a difficult time here. Very few sidewalks in the city, they force you to drive everywhere. You will need a home security system here in OKC, this has to be the burglary capital. Auto insurance is high because of the yearly hail damage. You HAVE TO have a garage or carport. Tornadoes are a huge threat here, especially in April and May. But oddly, they talk about them here almost like they’re proud of them?? I guess because it’s so boring, tornadoes bring a little excitement. There is a reason why OKC has a bad reputation in the United States.

Milwaukee, WI

Phil, you're funny. Firstly, I lived in Tosa and Brookfield when I lived in that area of the county. I didn't live in the city of Milwaukee either. I lived around all the annoying phony and ultra conservative people in the "burbs" Also, I'm a professional who worked daily when I lived in that dump. The Milwaukee area is full of really non-progressive thinking people who live in a very tiny World. Milwaukee is the most segregated city in the country full of red necks and thugs. If you ever get a chance, visit a city with a large population of educated, open minded and forward thinking people with a variety of things to do. Some of these cities are Minneapolis, Denver, Columbus, DC, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and many many more. Phil, You can have that dump.

Madison, WI

A really cool city! SO many ethnic restaurants and the farmers market around the capital during the summer is wonderful. It's a great city for walking and the lakes are really beautiful. I think Madison is a great place to live if you are gay or lesbian, vegetarian, or just have a live and let live attitude. However, Madison does have LONG COLD winter and can get some bad storms in the spring.

Miami, FL

DUMP! You must be VERY wealthy and live on or REALLY close to the beach to enjoy this entire area. Otherwise, it's like living in third World Cuba or Haiti. NO THANK YOU!

Milwaukee is a DUMP!
The ENTIRE city except for one tiny pocket on the far east side of the city is run down, old, dangerous and full of really backwards people. However, you could go out to the suburbs and be with the ultra conservative phony Christians. Sorry, Milwaukee is a big city full of A LOT of bumpkins and thugs. The true Mississippi of the north.

You hope you haven't offended anyone??? Of course you've offended gay people. Gay people aren't contagious to your children. Being gay isn't a lifestyle; lifestyles are choices like living a sedentary lifestyle or living a flashy lifestyle. That’s like saying, "I don't have a problem with blacks/latinos/asians/jews, I just don't agree with the blacks/latinos/asians/jews lifestyle." Or, “I don't have a problem with women, I just don't agree with the female lifestyle."
Sure, some gay people live a lifestyle of partying in the clubs, promiscuous sex or doing drugs just as some heterosexual people, but certainly not ALL gay people live that kind of a lifestyle.

Being gay isn't a way of life, it's just the way we are. I like to compare it to the hand you write with. I.e. Most people are right handed, some are left handed and a few can use both. You can't switch the hand you write with, just like you can't switch your sexuality. You can try, but it just won't work! And, I’m not sure how some heterosexual people know so much about being gay when they’re not??
When you say “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” is how you feel, how would like to be told you can’t talk about the person you love and you should hide your affection and relationship and be a shamed about who you are as a person so you don’t “offend” people or make others uncomfortable?
Asheville is a GREAT city full of beauty and many people who are educated, artsy and love the outdoors.

Cadillac, MI

The good and the bad - 8/30/2007
I lived in Cadillac for 8 years and this is my opinion.

Cadillac has beautiful lakes and National forests in the area that provide a lot of both winter and summer outdoor activities. The city of Cadillac has some what of a depressed downtown area because of the new far north side business district that has brought in stores like Wal-Mart and Meijer which have virtually closed down the downtown area. Just the sad reality of many smaller cities in the United States. The majority of the people in Cadillac know each other and it still has a small town appeal. However, the city has grown a great deal in the past ten years and a lot of people are moving to the area from larger cities in southern Michigan to escape the crime and big city problems. It’s truly a republican, traditional values city so if you’re a minority, meaning black, Hispanic, or LGBT you most likely will not “fit” it. Cadillac is in the lake effect snow belt so they get dumped on with a ton of snow in the winter. Cadillac is a blue collar, white, snowy, republican, affordable, quiet, small city. If that’s what you like, you’ll love it.
