Point Pleasant, NJ

great 'Jersey Shore' town - 7/15/2009
Pt Pleasant Beach is one of the nicest Jersey shore towns. It has a good mix of honky tonk and healthy family living. You're hard pressed to say "there is nothing to do" both summer or winter. Originally a farm community in the 1800's. It had a deep river with access to the Ocean. The river attracted a commercial fishing fleet. Pt Pleasant Beach is the beginning of the IC Waterway to FL. The Ocean and the quaint downtown made PPB a great tourist attraction. What is there to do? Many restaurants and night clubs. 1/2 day fishing party boats or overnight canyon sport fishing. NYC is 30 miles as the gull flies. Boat and PWC rentals. River taxi goes from bar to bar via the river. Boardwalk with games and rides. Two airports (Monmouth Exec and Lakewood) within 8 miles. Barnegat Bay is 5 minutes south. Nearby are Wall Stadium for race cars and Monmouth track for horses. Downtown shopping is decent in the old walking from store to store tradition. Many coffee shops-some with entertainment. A dozen antique shops. Two large hospitals are a 10-20 minute ambulance ride away. A local emergency clinic handles small problems. All Ocean beaches charge to use. Parking can get rough on summer weekends. Weekends on the boardwalk, as the bars are closing, can get pretty rowdy. All things considered- it's a great town. There are quieter shore towns (Spring Lake) and louder (Seaside Hts). I've been here 30+ years and I still like it.

Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

The ideal Jersey shore town summer and winter. - 7/7/2009
Summer - Beaches are clean and big, but not free. Boardwalk is family oriented. Manasquan RIver and Inlet caters to boaters. Commercial fishing fleet operates here. Great fishing. Many party fishing boats. Many night clubs and restaurants. Excellent police and emergency services. Limited care emergency facility in town. Nothing to do? You'll have a hard time saying this. Surf, swim, wake board, waterski, go fishing, boating, parasailing over the waves, sunbathe, hit the boardwalk, go out to eat, watch a beach side concert, great night club entertainment, numerous coffee shops, many parks, check out Gull island in it's natural state (overgrown island in the inlet area). River taxi. Passenger trains pass through town. Monmouth and Freehold Track (horse racing) and Wall Stadium (cars) not far. Rent a canoe or kayak and row to the up-river waters of the Manasquan. Historic Allaire Village nearby.

Winter- pretty quiet

There are quieter and noisier towns along the shore. PPB is a nice mix. I've been here 30 years and can't think of a better town.
