This person's view is definitely extreme. Regarding education, Florida is not 49th in quality; it's 49th in spending. Florida is not like other states. They are good with their money;required to have a balanced budget.

There are many things to consider when moving to a new area. For Austin, it has a lot of rush hour traffic (a crawl), high property taxes(the no state income doesn't help because the property tax is so high),high sales taxes, yes there are lower housing starts than some parts of the oountry but also lower appreciation in value for the long run, the hills are nice but if you can't afford those areas you will be living in some very flat and plain looking areas with no Austin community feel, yes there is always great live music around, most food you will find is barbecue or mexican/not a lot of variety or high cuisine, schools are good if outside of the city limits, they shut down the state guaranteed tuition plan a couple of years ago for parents to send their kids to college at lower rates, state colleges are getting expensive, this is the only city to live in in Texas, but if you don't have a job here when you come you will face a lot of competition from a highly educated workforce, industry here is mostly gov't., computers and general services(medical, retail, etc), people are friendly but also very stuck on themselves as being the best in TX and overly proud of just being TEXAN, summers are brutal, no nice water to go to (Lake Travis is ok and scenic), have to fly to go on vacation anywhere, no where you'd want to visit anything else in TX, very aggressive drivers which is a contradiction to their friendly demeanor, great place for probably Californians(they have the equity and see Austin as a younger California that hasn't got all the crowding and terrible social problems of say L.A.) relocating but not for many other parts of the country, big...immigration problem and will only get worse making Texas and Austin into a little California within the next 10 years at my guesstimation, otherwise Austin is a city like all cities has only a few redeeming qualities, a short stay will not suffice, you need to do some long range planning and thinking of what you most want out of life, there are trade-offs
