Fairfield, WA

fairfield is a very friendly town - 6/24/2010
My husband and I moved to Fairfield, WA. in August of 2009. We had some apprehension on whether we would be accepted, as small towns are known for shunning "outsiders". Not the case here at all!! I started volunteering for the local food bank and we started attending the First Presbyterian Church and we were very warmly welcomed with open arms.

The people are laid back which makes the atmosphere in the town relaxing and enjoyable. People do help each other out as it's just the thing to do with your neighbors. The people take care of their elderly residents by taking them to doctor appointments and such. No expectations, no ulterior motives. Just good old-fashioned friendliness and care.

You can go into any business here and people know you by name, you're NOT an anonymous face like how people are in a city.

You can walk anywhere and get there within 15 minutes. And it's quiet!! No loud stereos booming down the street. I feel completely safe no matter what time of the day, or night, it is. The only crime is vandalism in the park.

There isn't a lot here. One small grocery store, a pharmacy, a convenience store/gas station, a bank, a library and museum, City Hall, two parks, four churches, a hair salon, and a community center. All owned by people who live in Fairfield. But that's what makes this a country town. No large businesses such as Wal-Mart. I pray they never come out here and infect our friendly town with their cold, impersonal business practices. I don't believe the residents would allow it anyway.

We celebrate Flag Day every year and proudly display the red, white and blue with a parade on Main Street and vendors in our park.

I love Fairfield!! This is a place where you sit in your front yard and wave at people driving by and actually get a wave in return, whether they know you or not. Quite often they initiate the wave.

I can't imagine living in the city after living this life style. My husband and I work in the city as most people here do, but we were hurry out of there as quickly as possible! We leave the hustle and bustle, loud noises, traffic jams and rude people to come home to the serenity and peace of a small country town where the crickets sing at night and neighbors and strangers alike say hello.
