Zero culture and economy, brutal weather, poverty -
8/24/2021Moved to Nixa from CA during the poandemic and moved back home again. At first it was beautiful in the fall climate. Then came the brutal midwest winter and -20F. Our pipes froze, our house flooded, we had no sewer for 2 weeks. The town is very small with little to no culture apart from a BBQ joint and a strip mall or two. Gas stations and Walmart are the only places to visit where people will chat to you. People are very standoffish. Locals are suspicious of outsiders and if you are not a fundamentalist christian it is hard to make friends.
The main street is not really a main street. Very few business. However as its a town in the middle of nowhere it is somewhat safe but we felt safer in our homes in LA or San Diego having never been burgled there.
The villians from Springfield close by travel to Nixa for home invasions and larceny quite often. The law enforcement do their best but are underfunded with the whole unfunded the police thing creeping in. A lot of very low income left wing voters are moving to Nixa from other states.
The drug problems in Nixa are increasing with the Pot shops opening now and the meth capital of the midwest in Springfield is 6 miles away. That was mainly why we left Nixa and moved to Montana. We did not want our kids exposed to drugs, brutal cold and summer heat / humidity and overall nothing to do and zero economy. The schools are good but your kids will be exposed to meth, pot and no economic future.

8/13/2021Walmart is where its at. If you want to do nothing in life you will fit right in. Dont forget to wear you PJs to Walmart like the locals.

8/13/2021Yes agreed. I would say religious fundamentalist too. Cant wait to get my family back to a real city where my kids will not be brainwashed and have good economic prospects. The area is actually losing a lot of locally born folks they have it right. The suckers from out of state fall for the realtors sale pitches.

8/13/2021You got to be kidding?! The climate is awful. The crime is awful too from the proximity to Springfield. This review must have been written by a realtor. It is a horrible place to live. We moved from CA in 2020. We are leaving Nixa. Even as white people we found the community to be backward, racist, ignorant and lacking achievement. People are religious fundamentalists and preach Christian values but are happy to bleed new comers from out of state dry with inflated pumped up home prices and other durable goods. Oh here come the coastal immigrants, lets milk them dry is the large real estate brokerage in town motto. Good luck selling you home to a local. They can not afford any homes bought in the last 5 years so you will have to sell to another out of state sucker to hold the bag.

8/13/2021A lot of out of state people are moving here based on inaccurate information from realtors, banks and home appraisers. The homes are inflated and pumped up with fake bids, only for out of state folks. It is a well oiled machine to pump and dump local properties onto unsuspecting people with higher incomes from out of town. Now regarding the weather, it is just awful. Humidity is terrible in the summer, flies everywhere, chiggers, mosquitos like a swamp. Tornadoes in the Spring scaring my kids with the loud sirens. The economy and opportunity is tiny. Most people are close to poverty. Median income is 4 times less than coastal cities. You will see trailors / mobile homes in fields next to new homes purchased by out of towners. Crime is high as the Springfield criminals target Nixa and Ozark. If you want to fit in with depressed people move to the area. If you value your sanity and health move elsewhere. There are no restaurants apart from junk food. If you want a mediocore life and bash people with religious fanaticism you will fit right in Nixa, Ozark or Springfield.

8/13/2021Out of state resident opinion: Moved here from out of state. Weather is consistently humid. Rains every few days. Expect damage to your home and car yearly from flooding and hail. Tornados in late spring and freezing rain and ice all winter. A cartel of realtors will bleed you dry during your home purchase. The locals can not afford the list prices. When you sell you better get an out of state sucker to sell at 100% of appraised value. The appraiser, realtors and banks here are in on this unethical process. Based on the initial impression unpacking, not very christian at all. Locals are all about being fake and espouse holier than though attitudes. Behind your back they gossip and begrudge successful wealthy people. Never met so many ignorant racists in all my life and I am white. People here are content to stuff there faces with junk food at the various low quality restaurants and fast food joints. There is zero culture and zero support for community business. Walmart is where its at for the social scene and to go get some 'exercise' Crime is super high, many violent crimes spill over from Springfield. Meth junkies everywhere on the intersections. Not sure how the schools got such good ratings. It matters little if the rest of the quality of life sucks. Moving next week, selling our home to another out of state sucker.

8/13/2021It is a hellish place to live. Many of the out of state people on our street lasted a year and sold their home at a loss.

8/13/2021You got that right! The people moving from out of state to Nixa, Ozark are in for a shock when they have overpaid for a house by 50-75%. The locals have very low incomes and will never buy your home if you want to escape the closeminded, moody, religious n^tjobs of this area. Just to give you an insider view: The real estate companies are like cartels here. They will work for the seller and buyer at the same time. If you are a buyer you will be railroaded through a contract with many fake bids for the house you are tyring to buy to inflate the price. Out of state home buyers its lambs to the slaughter. But hey they have a folksy wave and smile for you whie ripping you off so it is not too bad. Not.
