Liberals Largely Unwelcome -
8/7/2012This is teabagger country, red as blood. Even the nicer people - and there are some - tend to be xenophobic as hell and self absorbed; so if you are not ultra-right politically, think twice before moving here, especially alone. I've even been confronted by alleged 'patriots' who like to play army in the woods on weekends, and I spent one hellish evening on my front porch arguing with a former zoning guy and a former police chief trying to make me ceded a 10x120' strip of land to the northside neighbor who wanted it; but I'm gradually digging in here and have refused to turn tail and run despite urgent efforts to make me do so. That in itself might be in my favor. But I'm just saying to others thinking of moving here, it ain't no Mayberry. Other than that I like it fine. And it is over time getting a little better, at least from appearances.

THINK TWICE -
9/18/2010Memphis may be a great place to live for those with relatives who were born and raised here, but by and large the place suffers extreme xenophobia and worse yet seems proud of the fact. While there certainly ARE SOME good people here, most of this Bible Belt nostalgia you hear about is pure hypocrisy. More like Peyton Place! But if you're into rabid tea party types, you might like it just fine.
