Las Cruces, NM

We moved from 'Aerospace' California nine years ago to retire, bought a lot and built a house and never looked back. Love the culture, outdoor activities from BLM land to Aguirre Springs in the Organs to Ruidoso at 7,000 feet. We get out and travel around just SW NM and there is hot springs and old mining towns. The town is clean, Main Street is quaint with the Farmer's Market, COAS bookstore and the active arts district like the Community theatre, Rio Grande Theatre, and Black Box theatre not to mention the Center of the Arts at NMSU and our own full Orchestra! The town has poor sections and richer sections, but not in the least are there ghettos or hoodlums as described by Ann. The community is tight and there are a lot of activities, festivals, winery trail, a larger city EL Paso which is routinely voted a safe large city, much more so than Austin or San Antonio. The University is great! Mesilla Park, Mesilla, Tala Vera, Los Alturas, Picacho Hills, Sonoma Springs, etc. are all worthy upscale neighborhoods. Nice enough roads, two freeways, lots of restaurants, lack of traffic, moderate crime (violent is in aggravated assault and rape) but mostly property crime that we have never had a problem though we use an alarm system. Water is not a problem. There is one superfund site in town. Air is poor in spring mostly March and April with some windy days, otherwise we are reveling at the city and Mountsin views from the Pucacho hills area. Many golf courses. Beautiful drives through pecan groves. I like Warner, sunnier, drier air with culture and a university and access to an uncrowded airport and we are set. We go to Rocky point down south of Tucson for the ocean. We also like trips to Sata Fe and Albuquerque. Both about 250 miles away. The new Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument is fantastic for outdoor adventures, Photography, hilking, flowers, springs, pine trees and picnics, mountain Biking and climbing. The Green chamber of commerce is great! The city leans left, including the city council and is working on being a sustainable city. Very affordable!! Mesilla, Dona Ana, Alameda Mesquite are all historic districts with Mesilla having fabulous entertainment, shopping and restaurants. I love the white Caucasian Europeans and Caucasian Latino integration. Everyone is friendly. I am appalled at the hate filled message of this writer Ann and just shows the lack of decency in Trump supporters, not to mention the lies.

This is written by someone who had a bad experience here. I have lived here 7 years and find the slower pace, the culture and friendliness enchanting, people are classy here but not dressed up, there is no class consciousness, Californian ways and prices have not moved in, and the place is well, authentic, not plastic!!
