The Real Hillsboro from a 30+ year resident -
12/15/2023Hillsboro is definitely an improvement over Portland Oregon which went from a beautiful city to a major dump full of homelessness, garbage and crime. We had lived in Hillsboro for over 30 years. It used to be such a lovely affordable city and a wonderful place to raise a family. Now it is so over priced a lot of people find it hard to afford housing, whether renting or buying! The “Glen Otto Community Park” they mention in the description to go canoeing in, is NOT in Hillsboro, it is in Sandy, Oregon which is 50 miles away!! Hillsboro is not along the Columbia River! That is in Portland! As many have mentioned, it Rains! A lot!! When it isn’t raining it’s gray for at least 6 months in a row a year!! Other than that, the city is beautiful in the warmer months because everything is so green from the massive amount of watering. A large portion of the jobs in the area come from a enormous Intel campus and Nike in nearby Beaverton. Though there are a decent amount of jobs, the wages aren’t keeping up with the cost of living. You can get to the mountains and the ocean within an hour or two, which is very nice.! Beautiful scenery! However most the highways are still two lanes, so leave early or it will take a lot longer due to the large growth in this area over the past 10 years. The high income tax nearly 10% and .60 per gallon gas tax along with the homelessness, crime as well taxation without representation made us decide to move away from Oregon. Sadly, Hillsboro and Oregon as a whole has changed too much and Not for the Good!
