A war Zone -
7/22/2012We love Fallbrook, problem is, you might as well live in a war zone as in Fallbrook. The Marines are not good neighbors, they destroy the tranquility we moved here for, damage our homes with almost constant explosions from bombs and artillery shelling. Fallbrook residents tell stories of dogs jumping through glass windows trying to get away from the ground shaking and the noise.
Helicopters fly over our homes, props pitched at angles that cause popping sounds, the windows in our homes rattle and shake. Mothers tell of their children being woken from sleep afraid and crying . It is impossible to have a conversation while sitting in our homes when helicopters fly over even, the simple pleasure of watching a television program is impossible.
Compounding the problem, unformed locals, refer to the problem as the sound of freedom. I have lived here since 1976 and still enjoy the ever decreasing quite of a small town. The Marines have huge amounts of land East of Fallbrook near Twenty Nine Palms and are acquiring more land.
Maybe because I served in the Army from 1963-1967, my view is biased. However, the Marines mission is to land on a beach which they have not done since the Korean War. The Marines have a PR branch equal to any major corporation in this country, its mission is to keep funds flowing to the defense contractors, many produce munitions.
If flying helicopters over our homes rather than on the base could make our men and women safer, I would be the first to say Ok, if using high explosive shells for target practice was needed, same thing. However, there is no need for either, using Twenty Nine Palms would be better for Fallbrook and more cost effective.
