Looks are Deceiving -
8/18/2008On the outside Watseka looks like a cute little town but it is the worst place I have ever been. It is very quiet, infact it's a ghost town after 9pm, every shop is closed by 4:30pm. The people residing here are very unfriendly, snobby and nosey but worse yet they all call the police on you for the slightest thing. I got a 75 dollar fine the first week I was here because the neighbor accused my dog of pooping on their grass, then the officer noticed their were no tags on the dogs collar so he was taking her to the pound, when I pleaded with him not to take the dog and that she really did have her shots and license but the tags were misplaced the officer then threatened to arrest me and have my children taken by DCFS. All this trouble over a dog pooping? It's a ghost town after 9pm probably because people are afraid they will be singled out by police simply for the fact that they are out after sundown! The quality of life is poor because of the over zelousness of the police, the excessive and strange rules they have and that breaking any of them can land you in jail for a long time if you don't have the money for a private attorney. There is nothing to do here, no recreation, no bowling, no roller rink, no fitness center,no theaters, no malls, no nothing and no swimming unless you want to pay 3 bucks per person at the tiny park pool (it's closed after the middle of august)There are no lakes or beaches, and no public transportation so if you don't have a car you can't even get out of this god forsaken place. The city council will not allow any expansion of the town or adding recreational places because they want to control who moves here and what kind of people come here. They don't want any outsiders in other words.
