Wow!!...Thank you!!! I agree with everything you just said. I lived in Richmond for 3 years and thought the city would be ok minus the PEOPLE!! There are many activities, museums and such, but no one to go to them with. I finally worked up the balls to move and have lived a few places and done tons of traveling. I had to get out of that town, everyone there is so depressing and they have hit dead ends and refuse to change. When I go back to visit everyone is still doing the same thing and hanging out with the same people. I did not meet one soul there that had any aspirations or goals. Yuck.

Generally speaking I would not rate downtown/churchhill as a very safe area. Pretty sketchy, I never felt safe there. I would recommend the Fan area west of downtown and the neighborhoods west of the Boulevard. I lived in Richmond for 3 years and truthfully you should never walk alone, but being a guy might be a little different...being a woman I avoided it as much as possible. Not to scare you, but Richmond has a very high crime rate and I can think of multiple crimes that happened in my neighborhood and to people I know. Be street smart and use your common sense...or you might get mugged/shot.

Staunton, VA

Lack of culture and young people - 4/21/2008
I grew up in Staunton and recently moved back for a short time after being elsewhere for 5 years. I think Staunton is a "cute" town, but does not have much to offer in the culture and entertainment area, also there are not many people under 30 here that are not married. There are great outdoor opportunities, but where do you go when it is cold or rainy?....there are a few coffee shops and a library that the homeless crazy people hang out in. You have to drive 30-40 minutes to another city for any good stores and there are not many employment options here. Maybe Staunton is ok to raise a family in, but DO NOT move here if you are a young single that loves culture, shopping and nightlife...there is none to speak of. Too small for me and very depressing...I can't wait to move!!!!
