4/12/2019Vance, you just highlighted the biggest challenge of living in Bend. Most opportunities are average jobs for average pay. It doesn't do anyone any good to increase their value and skills in a marketplace that is limited. Let's look at real estate agents. Over 2,000 are licensed. They aren't all active, but most real estate agents don't make a living wage. I know enough to know this for a fact. And you have people moving here because they are planning to increase their value and skills to be a successful real estate agent. Well, the problem I'm sure you are aware of is low inventory. But this is a great illustration of how it is in Bend. Obviously, you are one of the fortunate few.

4/12/2019This review is spot on for visitors. That's how Bend gets you pulled in. You come for a few days, a week, and you think it's paradise. You start thinking "how can I live here" ... and if you own a home in some part of the country where they cost more, you realize you can make a profit selling your place and buying a place here. Then you move here and find out what it's really like. Just make sure you spend alot of time here before you uproot yourself. There is a reason the saying "the grass is always greener" is still used today.

4/12/2019Affordable housing? If you come from a big city where houses cost more, yes. For the rest of the population who have to work in Bend, or like me, I can work remotely, but I earn enough to pay bills and go out to a modest dinner 2-3 each month. Most of the people who live and work in Bend are in the same position, if not worse.
