Pro's and Con's of living in Myrtle Beach - 3/14/2024
You're a newcomer here. I came here 15 yrs ago when it was untouched, except by tourists and the population year round was 35,000. Now it's tainted, tarnished and overcooked with a populat;ion of almost 500,000. Yep.., and it's continuing to expand. There isn't a day that goes by where I no longer recognize an area I had been in six months before. No matter where I look, land is being razed and buildings are being raised. So sad... and do some research about flooding.... before you come here. Home prices have doubled since I've been here, if not tripled and not all follow solid building codes, so expect to either pay high litigation/assessment fees on top of HOA dues or be sure to find a good, reliable contractor that knows what he's doing, because you'll need to tattoo his phone number on you when unexpected problems arise from lousy/faulty construction. I used to love it here...... now, to find another place.... and this current administration isn't helping.

Good for you! I moved here the same time .. 2009 I came here 15 yrs ago when it was untouched, except by tourists and the population year round was 35,000. Water quality

WATER, WATER everywhere and not a drop to drink. I can say, I've lived here 14 years. I use a water filter on my sink. I don't know what it is, but I can tell how bad the water is by looking at my nails. No matter where else I have lived, I've always had strong nails. I lived in Florida for two of the 14 years here and my nail were strong. I come back, they dry up and split and become brittle. I've lived in two other states and never had this issue. I know you might think this silly, but there's something about the water here, but if it does that to my nails, what is it doing to my skin and internally? I totally agree.

I believe you are the same Frank from Fernandina. You had a few snarky comments toward one review and told the to go back where they came from assuming it was New York?

Moving from a very cold and windy climate to what is considered is the deep south, you will feel it. At least you can't blame that on the President. lol

Judging a city only on politics is gettin - 9/10/2020
Hopefully you've had a change of heart since this post. The destruction of your city and the neglect of your governer and mayor seem to come to the surface. Good luck.

I'm so sorry for what you have had to go through. I've seen what destruction has been permitted by the rioters. Once a beautiful city run into the ground by neglect and greed. I'm happy to read you put the rightful blame where it belong pertaining to the covid. We have the same issues with the way the virus is handled in our state also. Can blame nobody but our governors. God Bless and stay safe.

Unreasonably expensive !

If it's so terrible, why are you relocating there when there are 50 (48 contiguous) states you can move to. I know a couple of FLORIDIANS that own a TON of property in KW and don't pay their employees enough to live there. I was one of them. People that are fortunate enough to make a good living up north and want to escape to a more suitable climate have just as much of a right to live there as you. You "southerners" have a lot to learn about getting along and where the money is coming from. Lots of land was bought up by many people who lived in Florida. Learn your history and don't make yourself sound so stupid.

LOL.. love your bottom line. They are a difficult lot to get along with and are the first to throw political correctness out the window.

wow.. all the more reason to move there!! You might be happier in a blue state on the west coast or northeast where they steal your money and the crime is high. :)

I'm a 'northeasterner' and your insult was totally uncalled for. Judging by your complaints, you're not very flexible with life in general and seems you can't find what you want. Go back to your 'wide open spaces' and meditate with your rattlesnakes, unless, of course, they are too loud too. Clearly your 'meditation' isn't working well for you.

Culture (or lack thereof)
- 1/27/2019
I agree, and I don't. Brookgreen Gardens has a host of history, art and culture. No, granted, it's not in a brick building with dinosaur bones or another building with modern art, but NY doesn't have the Smithsonian. It's all relative. The history here is the south and antebellum era. 1.5 hrs away is Charleston, chock full of history and museums, music halls and not too far from there is Savannah.

Smiling Faces...Not so Friendly Places - 1/27/2019
I have to disagree with you on this one. I live in Myrtle Beach and I'd much rather travel to Murrells Inlet. It's pretty as well as lots of fun and interesting places to go. There's beautiful Huntington State Park, Brookgreen Gardens as well as some great restaurants and entertainment to accompany them. I find people far friendlier there than in Myrtle Beach. Yes, I agree there is *some* prejudices toward the northerners, but that comes with the territory. You just have to override it. There's going to be comments like that no matter where you live and I've lived in quite a few states. Nobody likes 'outsiders' (even in-laws). I'm thinking of relocating from Myrtle Beach and Murrell's Inlet has always been one of my top ten picks. More northerners there now then when this was posted. Unemployment was terrible everywhere in 2010.

All your information is very helpful, but I do have one question. What is the importance of being specific about what 'part' of a location you come from? Are certain 'types' not welcomed?
