9/26/2006I grew up in Anchorage and absolutely loved it. There are endless things to do outside - camp, fish, hike, ski, etc. Yes, it is cold and it snows a lot, but you just have to learn to get used to it (easier said than done, I know). There are a lot of misconceptions about Anchorage and Alaska in general. The first day I moved down to the lower 48, somebody asked me if I lived in an igloo (they weren't joking either). I have never actually seen an igloo, we don't have pet penguins, it doesn't snow all year round, it's not as cold as a lot people think, and there is a relatively diverse culture with Caucasians, African-Americans, Asians, etc. It is costly to live in Anchorage because everything is shipped and housing and rent are fairly expensive as well. But wages seem to be higher in Alaska than in the lower 48. So it somewhat evens out. Overall, Anchorage is a wonderful place to live and I miss it very much.

3/2/2006Lived in Helena for 7 years and was glad to get the heck out. The shopping is terrible. You have to drive 80 miles to Great Falls just to do any decent shopping. It's extremely hard to make friends. If your not from Helena or a native Montanan, you more than likely will not be accepted. And If you dont like outdoor activities such as camping or hiking, you're in trouble. The only thing I liked about Helena was the weather. Glad to be living in the greatest state in the country - Wisconsin!

1/11/2006Friendly people, very little crime if any, nice university and technical college, good shopping for a small sized town (and if there's something you can't find in Eau Claire, Minneapolis is only an hour drive), and two nice hospitals. Eau Claire is growing and is a great place to raise a family.
