Grass Valley, CA

Not A Friendly Place - 6/28/2015
I agree with many of the other commenters here who have astutely reflected what it is like to live in the Alta Sierra Subdivision. If you have any questions what it is like to live here, just go to the AS Prop Owners Assoc website (it is voluntary which is a plus). What you see is a page about getting dead deer out of your yard/off the road (as if they have their nerve living here), tree waste, and propane. Nothing friendly, warm, welcoming...this kind of sums up the place. There just isn't much more to it than this.

People who live here are just plain mean. There is just no other way to describe it, and in some cases, downright hateful. On some properties, people have mounted cameras to monitor who walks by their homes/near their properties. It is not diverse at all, mostly made up of lower to middle income white people. The real downside to living in Alta Sierra is the subdivision has no trails, no sidewalks, no open space, no parks...they have tacked on a few little spots on the edges where they can. The open space park in the middle of the subdivision or what should be the park, is a privatized golf course. This used to be open to all residents but as of a decade or so ago, they quietly privatized it and now you have to have a membership, of course there are a lot of rules. In short, if you want to go for a walk, recreate, there is literally no place to do it in this subdivision but in the streets and we promise you, if you even try to do this, someone from one of the houses will come out of their house and demand to know who you are, where you live...you cannot even walk in this subdivision without one of the "happy and friendly" residents demanding your credentials. In some cases they can be verbally abusive and threatening. The people that live in this subdivision are truly truly strange. I guess if you are a hater, you'll do great here except eventually the haters start going after one another. Google "Alta Sierra disputes" and the local newspaper (The Union out of Grass Valley) you can see all the fights these people have had with one another. It's all documented in the local newspaper. They seem to hate one another. What a lovely place to live!

I guess we would say don't move here if you want to live in a friendly, warm, helpful, supportive community, you like to exercise/walk (the roads are very dangerous with no bike paths/sidewalks), and you
want great neighbors. The people that live here are NOT friendly, warm, supportive, inviting and
