Winona, MN
Quickly changing from what is was, to something yo -
6/5/2010Winona was once a peaceful and safe town. Don't get me wrong, it's no Rochester or Chicago when it comes to crime. BUT, there are many moving to this area from Chicago, and crime rates are going up. 9 months out of the year the town is CRAZY busy with college students which also brings alot of under-aged drinking and negatives that come with it.
In the summer the town quiets down a bit.
Winona is a GORGEOUS place to live with a lot to offer in stores. However most head to Rochester or Lacrosse for clothes shopping.
It has a Target, Walmart, Kmart, Shopko, JC Penny's, Maurices, and more.
Lewiston, MN
Great small town to raise a family -
6/5/2010I've lived in Lewiston for 10 years, we're now raising our family here. Lewiston is a small town in the heart of Winona county, and is fast becoming a town full of young families. They just built a new preschool center, and have a youth center in the works.
The negatives about this town are the prices of water (due to our water plant), and the older generations in the town not voting for any referendums to better the town and schools.
However, if you're looking for a quiet safe place to raise your children, this is a GREAT town.
