Nothing to write home about -
6/27/2010I relocated to CT from Western Mass. ( Northampton area) 6 years ago for a new job. It's is very expensive to live here, they tax everything. Way too conjested and crowded for the land area. The weather is not great here although winters are better than Western Mass. No "real" mountains here, lots of inner cities with no industry and LOTS of multi family homes for all the welfare people to live in...lots of crime and drugs in these areas, Hartford, Meriden, Waterbury, New Britain, Rockville, Willimantic, East Hartford, New haven, etc. Some nice areas of these towns, except Hartford which is a real crappy city. I have been all across America and I think this is one of the fastest paced places I have ever been to, driving is like a race here, and people do not know what a yield sign means!! In general, lots of fine folks here, but it is New England and the people can be a little bit "cold" at first, especially if you are moving to NE from out west, midwest, or the south. Beaches are nothing to write home about, I think Rhode Island is much nicer....counting down the days to when I can relocate away from this state.

6/27/2010Hello Mariana, I am from Mass. also and my wife is from Peru. I have relocated to CT 6 years ago, but grew up in Northampton area. I think the rural towns tend be a little racist towards Latin people, but you have to realize the reason. I think one reason is that my area at least, has a large Puerto Rican population, and Mass. being so liberal with welfare and public assistance, many generations of PR people immigrated here and are living off the welfare system. Many of these people have given Spanish speaking people a really bad image, because for the most part, the ones coming here to live on welfare are really low class, uneducated, lazy people who want a free ride...and the state gives it to them.
New Englanders in general tend to be a little reserved with their personalities, and often difficult to open up right away, but I assure you, there are many warm hearted New Englanders, once you get to know them. My wife, said she would never want to move back to Mass. because of how cold the people seem to be and the racist "impression' she has. Again, thank the bad Puerto Ricans for this image. Northampton is far more accepting and open to all people than some of the other surrounding towns. I hope this helps you a little bit.

Too expensive -
6/27/2010CT....Too expensive, too crowded for land area, industry pretty much all gone, LOTS of susidized housing, (welfare), state is bankrupt, weather not the best, no "real" mountains here, beaches suck....don't move here....cannot wait to move away.
