St. Louis, MO

As a life time resident, I have mixed feelings... - 2/5/2024
I'm 65 and lived here my entire life. Growing up in St. Louis I've learned there is a like to like about it. Lots of first class Hospitals and Doctors, LOTS of great Restaurants and Shopping, LOTS of Public Parks, places to walk, trees and hills, nice old neighborhoods with great architecture, world class Zoo, Museums, Arts and Music, and lots of great Universities... The biggest down side is the weather and the taxes! HUMID sweltering Summers, freezing dreary gray Winters, Spring and Fall are way too short and filled with pollen, pollen and more pollen. While St. Louis has a relatively low cost of living, our property taxes are some of the highest in the country, as are the sales taxes and state income tax. Crime is hit and miss and while you can feel safe where you are, a mile away there may be gang violence and car-jackings. The difference in crime rates from municipality to municipality are ridiculous due to the racial and economic segregation. Mostly St. Louis and much of St. Louis County is liberal, but in general the state of Missouri is pretty far right wing.

A great place to live - a detailed review - 9/17/2021
I'm looking at moving from my native city of St. Louis, Missouri and Pittsburgh sounds great! Your negatives are nothing compared to St. Louis. Winter here is just as dreary, it rains constantly in the spring and the pollen is so thick you can't get out and enjoy the warmer weather before the long sweltering summer kicks in. St. Louis is one of the most violent and segregated cities in the country with a crime rate over twice that of Pittsburgh. You may see me in Pittsburgh next year!

A Flawed But Lovable City Hated By The Mi - 9/17/2021
Pittsburgh sounds like paradise compared to where I live now. I was born in St. Louis Missouri and have lived here all my life. I don't think you will find a much more segregated and polarized city anywhere. The Ferguson riots made world news. Our crime rate is outrageous! We're the murder capital of the world! Anyone who can afford it is fleeing for the suburbs and leaving the city to rot. I can't wait to get out of here! I don't think I can handle another long sweltering St. Louis summer at 95 degrees and 80% humidity... I may be moving to Pittsburgh! It sounds delightful!
