Lily Lake, IL

Off the beaten path but still close to it all - 1/31/2009
Lived here 9 years now. Located in outlying area it's a growing village but still uncrowded. New large-chain Jewel/Osco grocery store/pharmacy only 4 miles down Rt 47 so quick 5 minutes to the store & gas & bank, or into Wasco 3 miles for McDonalds/Subway/Taylor Street Pizza, bank, drycleaning etc. Elementary school is very parent-involved and starts their days at 9am. Great student/teacher ratios 16/1 in Kindergarten about 19 or 20 to 1 for grades 1-5. Junior High & High Schools offer great courses, many with dual high school and college credits given! & it's not crowded either since new schools built in district absorbed some of students northeast of Lily Lake. Quick 10-15 minute ride to Randall Rd. corridor for upscale shopping, other grocery stores, top rated Delnor Hospital - really *everything* you could want - even upscale pet shops or big chains like Petsmart - or go a couple minutes farther to head into tri-cities of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia for quaint shops downtown. Plenty of churches nearby too. Trains into city offer easy access since new stops added in Elburn and LaFox about 5-7 minutes drive to stations. Drive 45-60 minutes (sometimes even 40 minutes!) to O'hare International Airport on I-90 or about same drive time into Chicago on I-88 if you aren't hitting rush-hour. Forest preserves, parks, creeks & Great Western Bike Trail all within and around Lily Lake. All around, great people and community with neighborhood parties, parades, fishing derbys, yard sales, social & volunteer groups. Located off of Route 47 and Route 64 it's on the edge of farmland the county has regulated so no continued housing development to the west of Route 47 - county sees need to protect farmlands & productivity, great foresight :) This area will remain smallish but close to it all for decades to come. A hidden gem!
