6/24/2017Oh, there is ONE positive thing about LV. It is a very pet-friendly town, and there are many clubs, rescue organizations, and pet-related events. Most rental properties accept dogs. While I hate LV overall, the pet aspect is fantastic.

6/24/2017I see you didn't mention medical care, and if you think the cost of living is good here, it's because you've lived here your entire adult life. It isn't. The houses are made of paper mache and cost as much as a REAL, BRICK house in the Midwest. But the unacceptable medical care is the worst aspect of LV.

6/24/2017ABSOLUTELY. LV is hazardous to residents' health because the health care is horrible.

6/24/2017LV might be better than LA, but that doesn't make it an acceptable place to live. Perhaps the problem is that moving west from other areas of the country isn't a good idea. I moved here from the Chicago area, and as a city, LV is a huge joke. The South gets a bad rap, but as far as I can tell, the West is the South without the hospitality, friendliness, culture, architectural variety, and health care. If I weren't too old to get a job elsewhere, I would leave tomorrow.

6/24/2017I moved to LV eight years ago from a town 1/6 of the size in Illinois. Everything Jim says is absolutely true. I moved here to accept a professional position, and while I love my work and my colleagues, if I weren't 61 and thought I could work elsewhere, I would move tomorrow. LV has NOTHING to recommend it as a place to live, and the lack of medical care makes moving here hazardous to your health. Don't.

6/24/2017In this glittering concrete hole, I hope you never need medical care. It doesn't exist.

6/24/2017I agree with everything Connie said. But the most important reason to avoid moving to Las Vegas if you have a choice at all is that the medical care is SO poor that it's difficult to believe this is a city in the U.S. Most of the hospitals are owned by for-profit corporations, with all the lack of quality that implies in 21st Century America.
In addition, it's strip mall after strip mall throughout the entire city, 95% of the houses are almost identical from the outside, and it's impossible to make a left turn into or out of any business. Driving around this town is a nightmare, even without the daily traffic jobs and unending road construction closures. I have a friend who is a dispatcher at a cab company, and he's told me that residents often have to wait two or three hours for a cab because drivers refuse to respond; the tips are better on the Strip and at the airport. Yet mass transit is poor, and the legislature is so unconcerned with residents' needs that they frequently consider banning Uber without addressing any of these other transportation problems.
LV is a great, fun place to visit. But you don't want to live here. If it weren't for my job, I would leave tomorrow.
