Lovely town, great for remote work. -
11/20/2023We found people to be very friendly and welcoming, especially if you put yourself out there and get involved. It’s a small historic tourist town with a great trail, kickass theater and arts community, and a federal courthouse. There is an absolutely wonderful farmers market, butcher shop, organic food store, and wine shop. Outstanding live music is everywhere. Other than law and medicine, not a lot of local high paying jobs to be found in town, but if you can take your job with you the town is wired with excellent high speed fiber. Our block not far from the historic district completely turned over in the last two years, a mix of young families, retirees, and working professionals. There is a lot of investment and renovation in downtown and the area is on the up and up. A lot of the locals move away after high school and college for jobs and school, but come back to raise families. They often say it is a dramatically livelier place than 10-20 years ago. Availability of affordable housing is declining as prices have gone up quickly. So, maybe not a great place to just up and move to if you don’t have your employment situation secured in advance. However, if you can work remote the quality of life is very high with vastly lower cost of living than big cities and tech hubs.
