Ellington, CT | 1 Review(s)

Inquisitive baby boomer, now retired with my wife, searching for our ideal New England location to drop anchor. Life time Long Islander who lived near the water on the Island’s south shore. For a retiree the cost of living has become, um, exclusive. New England provided the discount that we needed, plus we are not a large distance from our roots in NY.

Wantagh, NY

Great Town but it costs a bit - 10/15/2011
Wantagh, NY is on Long Island's south shore, lying in Nassau County, in fact a few miles from Jones Beach. Unfortunately it is expensive to live here with taxes reaching unforgiving rates. Housing is pricey as well. The offset is good neighborhoods, fabulous publics schools, proximity to New York City, abundant public transportation, good municipal services, while near many cultural and higher learning centers. Shopping is good too.
The weather is good although it is very humid in the summer, since Wantagh faces the bay and the ocean. Winters are not too severe but a blizzard or northeaster is guaranteed at least once during this season. Overall, Wantagh is a good suburban community but an expensive one.
