McHenry County, Illinois: 25th Highest Property Ta -
10/11/2012I was transferred to Northern Illinois and I made the disastrous decision to put down roots in McHenry County, IL. As noted above, property taxes are the highest in all of IL and 25th highest in the country. The county government is dominated by Republican good old boys who milk the government for all that it is worth. The sheriff's department has been subject to federal investigations into corruption. McHenry County is classified as an exurban community and as such property values have plummeted with no recovery in site. The county government is bloated beyond belief and county employees enjoy pay and retirement benefits far in excess of the norm.
Bottom line: Stay far, far away from McHenry County, Illinois
