wow. Andrew, you sound very ignorant. This man clearly feels a subtle racism within the city. What's wrong with complaining about it? Wouldn't you complain if you weren't being treated fairly? Conditions will not get better by ignoring problems. The best way is to voice your concerns non-offensively, which he did. Shame on you.

I agree completely. I think whoever in charge of city/suburb planning didn't do a very good job. (Or maybe this job doesn't even exist here). There is quite a lack of culture here in the suburbs. I can't believe people choose to live in houses that look exactly identical to each other.

I think downtown Raleigh is fun however, and Chapel Hill/Carrboro is fantastic!

Come visit here before you move here - 3/24/2009
I did a 6 month internship here, and was able to visit many of the suburbs and areas surrounding Raleigh. I lived in Brier Creek, in one of the many new apartment complexes that has popped up in the past 5 years. I would, under no circumstances, recommend this area to anyone who like to wants to walk ANYWHERE. If you want to go someplace, you better have the car, everything here is spread out. Also, this is a place for people who either have families and don't do anything anymore, or very boring people.

If you want to get a cheap house here, there are plenty of subdivisions with houses that look EXACTLY the same. Basically I would NOT recommend Brier Creek area for anyone under 30. It would be best for someone who stays in their apartment all day.

Moving onto Raleigh itself, most people live in the many suburbs of Raleigh and commute to RTP. If you like strip malls, you'll love suburbs around Raleigh, like Cary . Maybe good for families, but like I said, if you go anywhere, you need a car. It's not walker friendly.

If you are younger, recently out of college, I would recommend living downtown Raleigh, there is a definitely a good nightlife downtown. I personally liked Carrboro/Chapel Hill area the best, and it seems like the commute may not be quite as long as Raleigh (approx 1 hr to RTP). This area has a little more personality, and is a college town.

Good luck.

East Lansing, MI

the truth about east lansing
- 6/27/2006
East Lansing is a college town, and most of the people that live here go to MSU. It has a pretty good nightlife, with room for improvement. The bars are always crowded, parking is bad. There are families in some parts of East Lansing, but mostly loud and drunken college students. I think it's fun here but I want to leave after I graduate from college.

Jackson, MI

Jackson sucks
- 6/26/2006
Jackson truly sucks, and I grew up here. There's not very many good jobs here, where you can make a decent living. There's not much downtown, the night life is pathetic. I suppose it's an alright place to raise a family if you live in the suburbs OUTside of jackson, and housing is really cheap.
