Grew up here, horrible place. -
4/1/2007Sacramento is like a bad version of the bay area, worse weather, economy, crime ect but nothing good. The economy is entirely based on homebuilding, realtors, mortgages and the government and then healthcare and teachers and walmart ect. Don't look for the corporate HQs, cause they don't exist here at all, there is 0 Fortune 500 companies as compared to 29 in the bay area, and thats a good ratio to how much better the bay area is to sacramento.

4/1/2007I moved from California to Dallas, then after 6 months to Austin since a family member bought a house here. While everyone insisted Austin was the greatest place ever, I had reservations being as that I saw very bad traffic and in my opinion the downtown is about half hotels and there is a lack of corporate HQs as compared to say Dallas. That said, AUstin has very low unemployment and is very safe even at night compared with Dallas, hands down better than Sacramento, CA and much nicer people. Its not the total package but its pretty close.

4/1/2007I moved to Dallas from California because I wanted to live in a major business center, Dallas doesn't disapoint in that regard as its full of high rise buildings and corporate headquarters, shopping and huge mega malls like Northpark and restaurants. Downsides, most dangerous large city in USA, I heard that but never thought it would affect me until I was robbed at gunpoint, I told some people in Dallas about it and the stories some people have who live there about being carjacked and robbed go on and on. In general people who live there experience the crime where people who just work or shop there tend to not see that element of the city. The city is also extremely polluted but hey I give a pass on that, overall I will have to say one of the premier cities in the USA even despite the drawbacks.
