re: terrible place for a single professional -
3/27/2018Peg Mitchel. Geeze louise, why in the hell do you move to Duncan? Didn't you investigate it? Why put down a place if you plan on leaving anyhow? Didn't it ever occur to you that your comments might be offending some of the folks who live there? I do not. I live in a small town just north of Tucson, but am thinking about moving to Duncan. Sperlings ranks Oracle (the town my wife and I have lived in for the last 28 years) it 84 out of 100 in the comfort index. Lots of artists and libs. So am I. So what. There is no water. You have to drive a minimum of 2 hours to the nearest lake or river. There is a meth problem just about everywhere now. Worse than that is the heroin problem. But whether it is Duncan or somewhere else, life is what you make it. (Thank you Ginger Thornton)

re: Duncan is what you make it! -
3/27/2018Well said Ginger. I live in a small town 35 miles north of Tucson. My wife and I moved there in '90. Small towns aren't for everybody. It helps to be married. Happily married I would have to add. Because if you move to a small town to help solve some of your marital problems, well, I just think it will only make things worse. If I were single and young, I sure wouldn't want a small town. Thanks to the internet there is so much information you can receive about just about anywhere in the world. Sperlings Best Places is a probably the best site to find out all kinds of stuff about any town or city. From how many Democrats vs. Republicans to how many sunny days a year. City data is another good one. But unlike Sperlings which is just the facts Mam, City Data is purely subjective viewpoints. I just think you really need to do your own due diligence before moving to a place. With unemployment at over 10% right now in Duncan, it is a real buyers market for real estate. Problem with a buyers market the real estate agents don't tell you is that conversely if and when you plan to sell it very well might still be a buyers market. With the unemployment rate so high one would want to have a promise of a job waiting in Duncan before moving here.
Las Vegas, NM
re: Quality of life? - 3/21/2009 -
10/21/2009I love Las Vegas. I would move there in a heartbeat if I could talk my wife into it. But she who must be obeyed comes from a very close family, and it just isn't in the cards for me now. I disagree with the other writer about beaverville. I find it to be a very liberal city. I was hard pressed to find any "vote for George Bush" signs around election time. Whereas the Barack Obama signs were everywhere. Las Vegas is a very old city with a colorfull history. I have lived in the Tucson area for over 40 years, and just recently discovered Las Vegas, and what a find it was. I like to get up there at least once a year, and perhaps end up there after all.

Groovy Yuppies Invade Oracle -
10/18/2009The Beautiful people have arrived.Who thought that artists were poor? They are buying They fought developers for years so they could all have their little piec of paradise. Since when did developers become so evil? Building houses is not a sin. In 1970 the U.S. population was around 200 million people. Now it is 300 million. Someone please tell me where these extra million people are supposed to live? Not in Oracle. Of course unless you are an artist. The same thing happenned in Sedona. The groovy people bought up all the land, and caused the taxes to skyrocket. Now 2nd and 3rd generation Sedonans must live in the nearest towns away from their beautiful area. the same situation exists in Oracle now. I heard an artist say they want to eliminate all the mobile homes. What hubris! When I first move here one of these beatiful people asked me why did I bother moving here if I wasn't an artist? Gee I don't know. I just don't know anymore
