Bessemer Expenditures, College Attendance and Grad -
12/20/2008I am the recent retired superintendent of the Bessemer Area Schools 12 of the past 17 years. We currently invest better than $7,300 per student per year. In addition there are a number of children who also receive funds from the State of Michigan and the federal government for being at risk. Overall we invest an average of some $7,900 per year per student in the education of our children. The average class size is under 18 K-12, with 33 teachers for our 464 students. Better than 94% of students entering the 9th grade graduate with the exception of those who move from the area during their normal four years in high school. Students attending two year, four year and trade schools are better than 80% of all graduates.
