Levittown, PA

Like NJ but not.... cheaper than NJ but not better - 7/8/2023
I've lived here a few years (and moved here about 15 years ago when the Catholic school was open)... this used to be an area that was always filled with conservatives and Catholics. As an atheist and someone who's trans, I'd hear my share of false accusations, threats, insults, slurs, etc. They used to protest outside my apartment whenever there was a gay pride parade in Philly too. Seriously. I don't go to parades and I always kept to myself but I guess they just had to attack someone to scare them just because... no idea.

There are fewer of these people around now compared to back then but there are a handful. It's not uncommon to see a few houses here with Trump 2024 signs and "F*** Biden" flags flying over fences so you can see them. So there are a few conservatives left but not as bad as it used to be.

Still, the roads are not in great condition although they do tend to pave the roads every other year most of the time (which is good). But I live in Orangewood Apts which is a nice complex although the streets nearby have kids and "adults" firing off fireworks at random times of the day.... most notably at 9pm or 10pm. If you have a dog, best to keep your eye on the dog (probably cats too).

Unlike Bensalem, the amount of skunks around is fairly low to non-existent. Bensalem has sections with lots of those critters and you can smell them. Around me, Levittown smells like a random skunk sometimes smoked marijuana... but not too often. There's always one neighbor like this though.

Not a bad place to live but rents here are expensive. I'm paying about $1400 here and I can't afford much of an increase anymore. It's really getting too expensive. Prices for food in the area isn't too bad... you can trip over all the Wawas around here...

The local mall has seen better days and it's not really as good as it used to be 20 years ago. Right now they're changing it into an apartment complex (which seems like a good idea)... there's a movie theater there and really that's about it. Most of the restaurants have gone under, the roads are in bad shape around the mall... but the theater is still open for business.

The orchard was sold down the road and I haven't been back since as they closed down pick your own for a bit.....

Still, it's not a bad place to live. It snows there sometimes but not too much... if you are trying to escape NJ rent costs, you may have some luck here... but minimum wage is still $7.25/hr in PA so work in NJ and take advantage of tax reciprocity with NJ where you don't pay NJ state income tax.
