re: Dear Robert from Denver - 10/12/2007

Re: view of Kristen of Pine, CO to Robert of Denver.
Would you really know diddly from shinola? Your naive reply to Robt, and his foolish actions as he described them, proves to me that both of you two don't know the nature of hiSPanICS.
You don't go up to them about any inappropiate action on their part and mention it. They take offense at everything, no matter how slight or politely presented, and regardless of how inconsiderate they are being. They babble much nonsense about others showing them proper "respect". You'll look in vain for any from them. As a whole Hispanics are hostile and beligerent to whites. Those persons Robert encountered might well have been capable of and likely to attack him. He should never have talked to them. Better he should've called the police.
While you're at it, why don't you go cosy up to those people and see how unlikely they are "to see the beauty in differences."

Palm Desert, CA

the pros and cons
- 10/2/2006
I lived in Palm Desert from 1988 to 1998. It was not the right place for me for climatic reasons, but I got stuck there for other reasons. So I assume anyone moving there is aware of the severity of the summer heat. The summer low are 83 degrees or more. The highs from June thru Sept will range from the tolerable 102-to-108, up to the frequent 108-to-116, and the 116-to-124 heat waves that occur every summer. In 1995 there were 15 separate days that hit between 121 to 125, with one day at 126! Now that there are over 120 golf courses in the Coachella Valley, there is also humidity with that heat.
The scenery is attractive (the mountains and the sunsets and sunrises). The architecture is attractive too.
The worst aspect of the area is the population. The people in general are the nastiest I've ever lived amongst. The well off in the country clubs as well as the service personnel who work for them are all the most unpleasant, hostile population I've ever lived in. There's also a lot of alcoholics and meth addicts in that population.

San Diego, CA

too expensive
- 10/2/2006
I was born and raised in San Diego. Right after WW II it boomed. People from everywhere moved to it. Still it didn't seem overdeveloped, and it stayed ahead of its traffic needs with an adequate number of freeways up into the '70s. But now it's gone the way of LA. Its freeway system can never cope with the traffic conditions. It's been ruined by indiscriminate over developement. It's ridiculously expensive and over crowded. It has an excessive percentage of Hispanics flooding the city. It's a disaster waiting to happen. I lived elsewhere from 1961 until 1998. I lived in SD from 1998 until 2004. I'm glad to be gone. All that looks good won't last.

Portland, OR

bad weather exaggerated
- 10/2/2006
I've lived in Portland for over 2.5 years. I moved here from San Diego. I had hoped the weather would be a milder version of North Europe's. The summers are too hot and too sunny here! It's hotter here than the coastal littoral of southern California [coast to 15 miles inland]. It's like El Cajon or San Fernando Valley, and without any cooling fogs or overcast.
The winters are mild, like a slightly cooler Northern California winter weather. For some strange reason 60 degrees in Portland is like 70 degrees in So. Cal, and 80 is like 90 etc There has been no snow since I've been here, and only one day of freezing rain per winter. It only seems a little rainier or cloudier than gloomy So. Cal. in spring during the short mild winters here. They don't have adequate A/C which makes the summers uncomfortable.
The city has had a huge influx of people in the short time I've been here. It's sad to see it go the way of Seattle and California. I bet in 5 years it'll be just like those places. I have to seek out another place to move to to stay ahead of the crowd.
