re: looking to move - 10/1/2009 -
3/30/2010I moved from Raynham, MA to Winterville, NC 5 years ago and have never looked back. It is clean, safe, and it is an up and coming comminity. The schools in Winterville are the best. My daugher goes to a brand new school and I have not heard one complaint from one parent about the schools in Winterville. We were hesitant coming from Massachusetts but I have been very pleased. The hospital is also great. It is called PMCH (Pitt Memorial Community Hospital). The hospital has some of the highest technology, including a cyberknife for treating cancer, and we have been very impressed with the care. I would suggest coming out for a visit and staying a week to get the feel for it first like we did. This is a wonderful community with much lower taxes and housing prices you will ever find compared to Massachusetts. We built the house of our dreams for a fraction of the price you would pay up North for a much smaller house that would need major updating. Hope this helps.

My view of Winterville, NC -
3/30/2010I moved here from Raynham, MA 5 years ago and haven't looked back once. It is so open and sunny. There is land as far as the eye can see. This is a growing community with great schools and great shopping. We are only about an hour and a half from Raleigh if you want some superb shopping. We have a small airport about 15 minutes from here. The hospital great. Pitt County Memorial Hospital is also a teaching/training hospital and uses some of the highest technology you will find anywhere, including a cyberknife that is used in fighting cancer.
The weather is wonderful. There is nothing like seeing your flowers start to pop out at the end of February. It seems like the sun is always shining.
The cost of living is great with relatively low real estate taxes. The housing prices are unbeatable compared to those in Massachusetts. You can get a brand new home for about $150,000-$200,000 with all your up-grades.
We aslo have a small community college called Pitt Community College. It has some wonderful programs and is very inexpensive to attend. Overall, I love it here. No place is perfect, but I have no regrets picking this small, wonderful community to raise my family.
