For some fun in the great outdoors, visitors can visit nearby Sequoyah State Park for boating & fishing on Fort Gibson Lake or take an adventure at River Floating Adventures for tubing down the Illinois River. During the winter months locals love skiing or snowboarding at Ski Apache near Ruidoso, New Mexico which is just a short drive away.
Tahlequah also has plenty of organizations that host events throughout the year such as The Cherokee National Historical Society that offers educational tours about Native American culture or The Northeastern State University Center for Creativity which showcases local art exhibitions all year long. Lastly there are lots of local sporting events to enjoy from NSU college sports games to Cherokee Nation Baseball League games during Spring time.
