Daufuskie Island, SC is a small island located off the coast of South Carolina. With a population of only 533 people, it has been able to maintain its rural roots and natural beauty. It’s population density stands at 414 people per square mile, which is much lower than the US Population Density of 93 People per Square Mile.
The local businesses on Daufuskie Island include: Mercier’s Market & Deli, Bluewater Grill, Haig Point Country Club & Resort, and Melrose on the Beach. Visitors can enjoy various year-round outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, golfing, nature walks and beach combing throughout the island. In addition to these activities there are also local organizations such as The Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation who work to preserve the unique culture and heritage found on the island. Every June they host an event called “The Heritage Festival” where visitors can learn about the history of Daufuskie Island through music and demonstrations by local artisans. There are also several annual sporting events held throughout the year including The Salt Marsh Open Golf Tournament in October and The Billfish Invitational in November.
