Butterfield, MO, is a small community located about 6 miles southwest of Cassville. With a population of just 40 people, Butterfield doesn't have much in terms of business or activities. However, the local general store provides day-to-day amenities and necessities. Outside of shopping, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in Butterfield. The nearby Roaring River State Park has a great fishing pond as well as camping and cabins for rent during the warmer months. In addition to Roaring River State Park, Elk Creek is great for fishing year round. Every spring the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) hosts an annual trout derby at Roaring River State Park with prizes awarded to the winners. Other organizations in Butterfield include the local 4H Club where kids can learn about different animals and plant life around them and the Franklin County Historical Society which hosts lectures and other events relating to local history.
