Canton, Maine is a small town in the southern part of the state with a population of just over 2,800 people. As with many small towns in Maine, there are several religious congregations that call Canton home. The two main churches in Canton are the First Congregational Church and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The First Congregational Church was founded in 1820 and offers regular Sunday services as well as weekly Bible studies and other events throughout the year. The Sacred Heart Catholic Church has been part of the community since 1827 and provides Sunday mass as well as a variety of religious education classes and activities for people of all ages. Both churches offer an inviting atmosphere and welcome any who wish to come to their services or participate in their programs. In addition to these two larger congregations, there are a number of smaller churches located throughout Canton which also provide spiritual growth opportunities for their members.
