Nuiqsut, Alaska is a small city located on the Colville River in North Slope Borough. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about traditional Arctic living and culture, as it houses the only Native Alaskan community within the borough. The schools in Nuiqsut are highly rated by residents and provide quality education for students. There are three schools within the city: Rehwinkel Elementary School, Louis Rocco Jr./Sr. High School, and Nuiqsut Elementary School. Each of these institutions excels in providing an environment that encourages exploration and creativity. These schools focus on providing educational opportunities that are tailored to student's individual needs while also stressing the importance of preserving and celebrating traditional Alaska Native cultures. Students at Rehwinkel have access to physical education classes, special needs programs, music classes, library resources, online learning opportunities, and after-school activities such as sports teams and clubs. Louis Rocco Jr./Sr High School provides additional levels of educational experience with its Career Technical Education (CTE) program which focuses on preparing students for post-secondary success. Meanwhile, Nuiqsut Elementary School provides a comprehensive curriculum that includes core subjects like math and science as well as more advanced courses such as art history and cultural studies. All three schools work collaboratively to create an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
