Washington, MS County is located in East Central Mississippi and offers a variety of transportation options for its residents. Public transportation within the county is provided by the Delta Regional Transit Authority (DRTA), which operates local buses throughout the county. The DRTA services stops at nearly all major cities and towns in Washington as well as providing access to several popular tourist destinations. Additionally, the DRTA provides intercity bus connections from Washington to surrounding counties, major cities, and airports.
For those who prefer to drive their own vehicle, Washington has excellent road access. Highway 84 runs east-west through the county connecting it to nearby cities such as Yazoo City and Jackson as well as other areas of Mississippi. For those travelling further distances there are also two main highways that run directly into Louisiana – US 49 running north-south and I-55 running east-west. In addition, Amtrak’s City of New Orleans line passes through Washington with a stop in Greenville making it easy for passengers to connect with the train system for long distance travel.
