Redwood City, CA is a vibrant and lively city located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Politically, Redwood City is governed by a City Council consisting of seven members, including a mayor. Each council member is elected to serve for four-year terms. The local elections take place every two years, giving voters the opportunity to shape the future of their city. The current Mayor of Redwood City is John Seybert and he has been in office since 2018. Under his leadership, the city has seen significant improvements in public safety, economic development and education. In addition to that, Mayor Seybert has also worked hard to ensure that all citizens are being heard on issues such as housing affordability and environmental sustainability. Redwood City strives to be an inclusive and progressive place to live and work for all its residents.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
