Manchester, New Jersey is a small town in Ocean County with a population of just over 3,000 people. As such, it has a smaller political infrastructure than larger towns and cities. The local government is run by an elected mayor and four council members who are voted in during municipal elections. These elections occur every two years and are held in November to coincide with the state and federal elections. All residents 18 or older are eligible to vote for the candidates they believe will best serve their interests. The mayor and council members work together to set policies that reflect the interests of Manchester’s citizens, create budgets for the town, manage taxation, and oversee public works projects. They also develop zoning regulations, as well as adopt laws regarding noise control, traffic control and other public matters that affect the quality of life in Manchester.

R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
